Handling toxic & hazardous chemical substances

Relevancy:

Notes how impending health & safety legislation will make more difficult the use of title species. Legislation deriving from environment, transportation, worker safety, consumer safety & other sources can attach to the problem. Risk assessment is discussed and some of the most onerous laws are listed.. 1 ref

Handling volatile materials

Relevancy:

Treatment air emissions of volatile organic cmpds (VOC) as it arises in cleaning & degreasing operations is via two main approaches, absorption and catalytic oxidation at elevated temperature. The principles & plant design for the latter are detailed where burner design & operation are considered in terms of the nature & concentration of combustible species.

Hands off rust

Relevancy:

Unsatisfactory test results on proprietary rust converters are reported. They are capable only of retarding further corrosion attack, but are much less effective then red Pb in linseed oil.

Handwipe disclosing method for presence of lead

Relevancy:

A form of spot test or analysis for presence of Pb on a surface. The handwipe is treated, after use, with aq. acid and then rhodizonate or sulphide ions. Colorimetric or spectrophotometric analysis is then carried out.

Hanger Bar

Relevancy:

A hanger bar for a cathode plate and a method of producing a cathode for electrolytic recovery of metal. The hanger bar comprises a support element which is preferably stainless steel and hollow. An electrically conductive metal cladding is affixed the stainless steel bar by any appropriate mechanism, eg interference fit, welding, chemical or mechanical fastening or coextrusion or roll forming. Affixing the cladding to the stainless steel support element has significant advantages over conventional electroplating techniques including that a more precise engineering specification can be applied to the cladding thickness. This is important to maintain vertical alignment of the cathode plate in the electrolytic cell.
