Purpose was to show possibility of using emissivity observation (here simple pyrometric measurement) as in situ and real-time means of controlling surface and therefore also treatment process. Proposed model calculation of thickness and complex refractive index of deposit, to measure kinetic growth and watch its possible evolution.

DIAM The initial growth process of epitaxial diamond thin films on c-BN{111} was characterised by scanning tunnel microscopy. At the very early stage of diamond growth the c-BN{111}B surface was covered with a flat carbon layer. Parts of this layer were observed to have aggregations of thin platelet crystals about 100 nm diameter with an epitaxial orientation and triagonal or hexagonal shape as observed for an epitaxial diamond particle by SEM.

Microstructure of title PbZr (x)Ti(1-x)O(3) (PZT) depends on deposition & thermal processing parameters. Title films were dep'd by repeated spin depositions & anneals with 11 discrete PZT layers. Above 50°C, single-phase perovskite layers can be found. Inhomogeneity in nucleation & transformation leads to formation of local "rosettes" and small temperature changes can substantially affect transformations. This effect is studied & correlated to change in structure of underlying Ti layer. XRD, TEM & EDX results are shown. 21 refs
