OEM drivers & replacement options for aircraft manufacture
PowerPoint slideshow describes how the various US and EU environmental and health & safety legislation affects the design and manufacture of aircraft, e.g cadium, hexavalent chromium restrictions. Various legislative acts etc are listed.
OEMs balance VOCs, quality and cost
A review of the efforts of car manufacturers to reduce paint emissions and at the same time meet increasing consumer demands for high quality finishes.
OES monitoring of sequential deposition of C/W layers by PECVD/magnetron sputtering techniques.
OES study of plasma processes in d.c. discharge during diamond film deposition
Of mature years..
Explores the scope for selling and buying second-hand electroplating plants where not only the technical specification but also compliance with recent water conservation legislation should be borne in mind. Under German law, hazard ratings can be assigned to such equipment. Table lists anticipated guidelines for solid waste amounts permissible when a plating plant is closed down. Key German environmental legislation is noted. 2 refs
Off-axis texture in nanostructured Ti(1-x)Al(x)N thin films.
Off-axis unbalanced magnetron sputtering of YBa2Cu3O7 thin films
MCP Unbalanced magnet assembly is used in DC off-axis sputtering to grow YBa2Cu3O7 superconducting thin films. Assembly with a stronger central magnet than annular magnet directs plasma to bombard the off-axis substrate, resulting in deteriorated thin films. In contrast, assembly with a weaker central magnet directs plasma away from off-axis substrate and results in film with higher transition temp. and smoother surface. Latter type gives higher deposition rate and enables grown film to be uniform on static substrates over range of 8 cm in length.
Off-line painting of automotive plastic components
In the development of so-called "3 litre vehicles" by Daimler Chrysler with aluminium or plastic bodywork, the decision was made to paint plastic bolt-on components off-line. The advantages of this means that these do not have to withstand the higher cure temperature of the main bodywork. Defects and the need to re-work have no implications for the main assembly line process. Normal practice is that such bolt-on components will be painted on the premises of the suppliers (component manufacturers).
Office Equipment Manufacturer Increases Production with Automated Plating Hoist
Case study of plc controlled hoist with photos, details.
Office furniture manufacturers adopt low temperature pretreatment

Offset aluminium lithographic printing plates
In cathodic modification of roughened Al (alloy) offset printing plates 0.1-10 g/m*2 surface is removed in soln. at pH 3-11, containing 5 g/l to saturation of water soluble salt, at 3-100 A/dm*2, 15-90° s. This may be followed by anodising and application of hydrophilic treatment.
Offset printing plate
Al is treated in HNO3 soln. using a.c. at high c.d., after which it is desmutted and treated at low c.d. to produce matt finish for offset printing.
Offset printing plates
Plate, foil or strip Al material which has been roughened chemically, mechanically or electrochemically, is oxidised in soln. containing H3PO4 60-180 g/l, at 47-70°C, 36-80 V, then in soln. containing H2SO4 60-300 g/l, at 30-65°C, 15-35 V, to produce substrate for radiation sensitive layer on offset printing plate.
Offshore protection: painting for a 20 year life
A discussion of the approaches and methodology used in the selection, application and maintenance of coating systems for offshore oil and gas production installations in the North Sea. Key lessons are identified and a strategy is proposed for achieving the goal of whole life ie 20 years coating performance with minimum remedial maintenance.
